Our Story: Born from Gin, Frustration and a Ringing Phone

James Greig, founder of Chaty.ai and owner of Wildflower Gin in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, knows all too well the juggling act of running a small business. One moment he was distilling a new batch of gin, the next he was hosting a tour or shifting pallets with a forklift. And through it all, the phone would ring.

Answering those calls quickly became a constant frustration. Every ring represented a potential customer or booking he couldn’t afford to miss, yet it always came at the worst possible time. In the middle of guiding guests through a hands-on gin-making experience or straining under the weight of a pallet, he’d have to abandon everything to sprint to the phone - only to hear a simple question: “What time are you open tonight?”

The answer was already on the website, on Google and even on the front door. But the interruption shattered his focus and James knew there had to be a better way.

With a background in technology, he set out to build that solution himself. He wasn’t interested in a basic answering machine; he wanted something smarter - an intelligent, helpful receptionist who could manage calls, handle the simple questions, and free him to focus on the heart of the business.

That idea became the first prototype of Chaty, built right there among the gin stills. What began as a personal project to preserve his sanity quickly evolved. As AI advanced, so did Chaty. She became sharper, friendlier and more capable with each iteration.

Today, Chaty is a fully fledged AI Receptionist and an essential part of the Wildflower Gin team. Available 24/7, she handles calls with a cheerful personality that customers genuinely enjoy. She answers common questions, ensures no call is missed, and lets the team concentrate fully on the guests standing in front of them.

The real breakthrough came with bookings. By integrating Chaty directly with the Rezdy platform, James ensured that when customers call to book a tour, Chaty can complete the entire process instantly and seamlessly. No more missed opportunities, no more lost revenue.

Chaty was created out of a frustration familiar to every tour, attraction, and experience operator. She has become Wildflower’s secret weapon - the tireless team member who gives them back their time and allows them to focus on what they love.
